Women of history.

bell hooks (born Gloria Jean Watkins) is an American writer and protagonist for feminism and social activism. She adopted the name bell hooks from her grandmother who was known for her snappy and bold tongue, which she greatly admired. She claimed that lowercasing her name signified what was most important about her work: the substance of her books.

With over 30 published books about the intersectionality of race, capitalism, and gender - what she describes as their ability to produce and perpetuate systems of oppression and class domination, she is one of the most significant writers of our times. bell hooks is still very much active today and founded the bell hooks Institute at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky
Are their more women out there we need to learn more about in school or by media?
